path deform problem

Hi,

I am trying to animate a cable along a path. When I path deform it, it follows the path but the path is way off from the original orientation of the one I made. How do I make the cable follow the path I created exactly?

Thanks!

Todd

Hi Todd.

Which pathdeform did you use? There are two of them, the normal one and the WCM (i hope I translated right, 'cause I use the german version of max).

The normal adds an instance of the path with its first point on the pivot of the object, you want to deform and takes its axis-orientation from that object.

The WCM leaves both in place and deforms the object along the shape of the path. But there you find a botton that says something like "bring to path". If you push it, the object moves with its pivot to the first point of the path. Check the Z-axis too and you have it.

Hope it helps

Uhm, as far as I remember, max 4 already had both modifiers.
The WCMs have their own category in the list.

Version 4 is a few years out of date ;)
