rendering farm

hi

my company is planning to setup a small rendering farm for both max and digital fusion. We are thinking of those server blades system, about 10 blades for a total of 20 CPUs for rendering. My question now is, does anyone know what is the best OS to install on each of the system? Do we really Windows server 2003 or will XP pro do just fine? Does anyone has a similar setup? care to share?
Thanks!

Hi

Win XP Pro will do it, because all you need is a TCP/IP-based network. The rendermanagement is completely handled by the backburner-components.

Hope it helps

A friend and backburner-expert told me a few minutes ago, that even XP Home Edition runs pretty well.

Maybe this saves some cash for other things.

Hi frank

thanks for the reply.

So i guess there's no real difference in performance, rendering wise if i installed it on Win2003 as compared to running it on xp pro or even xp? Management still have the idea that a server OS handles CPUs more effectively. Just need to convince them.

thanks again.
