Hi all,

First time poster here with a problem that I feel should be easily solved but I sure can't work it out.

The client needs an animation of air molecules moving in time with invisible sound waves from a central source; this is the model I've been working from:

https://tinyurl.com/yc9ypn4j

I've been trying to make a random particle emitter and keyframe a series of circles emanating from the middle to edges of the screen, but whatever simulated behaviour I tag the particles with -- Attract, Repel, Drag, etc -- they aren't reacting to the circles' edges, only revolving around the centre.

I know particle physics in Motion is 90% smoke and mirrors and I suspect I'm trying to get the program to do something it's not built for, but this seems like a pretty rudimentary effect to simulate; is there anything you clever folks can think of that I ought to be trying? Any tutorials I might profitably check out?

Thanks so much for your time. All the best,

- Tom

Try looking at this Ripple Training video- it may give you some ideas

If you are simply talking about the rings that pulsate outwards, here's how to set up the Emitter.

Set the Shape to Circle and the Arrangement to Outline.

Set the Emission Range to zero.

On the first frame set the Birth Rate to a large number like 1000.

Keyframe the value.

Step forward a couple of frames and set the value to zero.

Step forward about one second and set another keyframe (again at zero).

Open up the Keyframe editor and with the Birth Rate parameter selected, click on the tiny dropdown to the right of the control and select After Last Keyframe/Repeat.

That will create a set of continuously pulsing rings.

Test project here: 14105_pulastingrings.motn.zip

The oscillating rings are a bit more tricky but you didn't ask about those.
