Tracking 3D Text in Apple Motion Using Tracking Data From Mocha

I'm trying to figure out how to track text in motion using tracking data from mocha. The data worked great for shapes, masks and other objects, it just won't track the text.

This is what I'm doing:
I am exporting a Motion corner pin (*.motn) out of Mocha Plus. When I add a match move in Apple Motion to the text, select four corners and add the mocha generator to the source well, nothing happens. Everything else I've tried works great.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I would simply use TrackX. I've found mocha's Motion export to be both cumbersome and buggy.

Are you tracking the entire clip or just a portion?

I would recommend contacting mocha support:

mocha's Apple Motion export has not changed in quite a while, so if you are looking for a simpler solution for Text tracking in FCPX, I highly recommend CoreMelts products that are powered by the mocha planer tracking engine: http://www.imagineersystems.com/products/partner-products/slicex-trackx-dri...

[Ross Shain] "mocha's Apple Motion export has not changed in quite a while"

Unfortunately, yes. I think since v2 or 3. Which is what I attribute my usual issues to when trying to move track-data to Motion. And at the same time the reason why I'm so happy that they decided to team up with CoreMelt, even though that's obviously not the same. But good enough for the vast majority of stuff that I need most often. :)

Are you applying the corner pin match move directly to the text layer? This will probably not work.

Try applying the match move to the group (with the text layer inside) instead and it should distort correctly.
To make sure it matches the scene correctly you should also fix the resolution of the group to the dimensions of the footage.
