How to make filters and rasterization work in 3D space?

Bit embarrassed to ask this, since I've been working with Motion for a few years now (albeit mostly for 2D stuff), but given that applying just about any filter or blend mode change to an object will force it to be rasterized, what's the procedure for maintaining the correct depth order when applying filters and blend mode changes to objects that have been positioned in 3D space? Do you just have to reorder the layers as if you were in 2D?
The specific problem I've got is that I've built a simple 3D project, just some text layers and video shrunk into small boxes, in front of a background texture, with everything offset from everything else in Z-space. I want to add glow to the text, but as soon as I do that it rasterizes and suddenly the video boxes, which were previously behind the text due to depth order, are now rendering in front of it.
