Render Time vs. Editing and Billing

How does everyone here deal with time spent rendering?
It's not part of the creative process really, but does eat up computer time.

Do you set an hourly rate which reflects a percentage of what you charge for the actual hourly edit time rate?

I am not talking about intermittent renders while working in a timeline.
I am talking about the lengthy renders out of AE/Media Encoder which run overnight.

Thoughts?

it depends on your client base. if you have a whole bunch of small clients who can't afford to be nickel and dimed or a few big clients who can. it goes back to the old argument, per job or per hour. You can have hybrid up front costs for certain projects like dvd transfer compared to a 3D maya render taking 60 hours. for unknown render time, constant communication for job time estimates will keep both sides happy as there won't be any surprise charges. THAT's the most important thing, keeping both sides happy:)
