Off Topic... Anyone know this is called?

I know this isn't really a business question, but you guys always have the answer.
I'm working on a proposal that involves creating a video tracking a car's movements using google earth.

I want to use a square that we ordinarily see in a video game where you line up a shot to shoot at targets. This square is also featured on the show Person of Interest. I have no idea what the technical name of that square is. Any answer would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

A slang term would be "pipper".

I think it is a fairly recognized term. It all depends on the client though. Everyone communicates differently and you need to put it into words they will understand. If this is too much for them, just spell it out, for instance-

"Satellite imagery tracks the van as it races from the Vance Refrigeration store to the customer's house."

These aren't words that will appear on screen, so just focus on painting the best mental picture you can.

Tell them to watch the intro credits to Person of Interest and you won't have to explain it in words. (Just hope they don't expect 50 or a hundred of them at once, each with a data stream below it.)

Actually Nick, there's tricks in Apple Motion, and I bet in AE, that make large numbers of those very easy to generate, the trick is to treat them like particles.

Targeting Rectangle or Square should work fine.
