Top Five Regrets of the Dying
on Dec 30, 2011 at 1:41:57 pm

This article really struck me. It's the top five regrets of the dying as told by a hospice worker. In particular I was struck by the comment about dreams and not following them because of a fear of failure and not doing what was expected of you.

If you go back two years in this very forum, there was a discussion about how a large production company folded and that led to more talk about how bad the economy and the industry was in general. In that thread and a few others that followed, I mentioned our plan to build and open a new facility for which I was roundly ridiculed by some folks on here. It would fail for sure and only an idiot would open a huge new facility "in this economy." But it's funny that my comment on June 14, 2010 mirrors some of what is in the article about regrets.

Reality is you only have one life to live on this earth. Our venture might succeed, it might fail.....We're going to give this our best shot and if that isn't good enough, we go bust and I go back to freelance editing or any myriad of other skills I have. But I'll never have to ask myself, "What if?"
You can read the rest of it here..... http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/17/870581

Long story short, as the article reminds us, we all get one shot at this thing called life. We're all in business to make money and be successful. But remember to take time to enjoy life, enjoy the people around you and follow some of your dreams. Win, lose or draw, I plan to have very few "what if" questions lingering when my time comes.

Wishing the best for you and yours in 2012 and beyond.

Good article thanks Walter. Really shows why taking risks is important in personal life and business. Without the risk of failure and the triumph of success we are just spinning our wheels. Hope 2012 is filled with more success than failure for all of us.

I didn't know you were a chef.

I had the opportunity to visit Biscardi Creative this past summer and Walter has a first class operation.

[Steve Wargo] "I didn't know you were a chef."

Growing up in an Italian family, I basically lived in the kitchen. Also, gave serious consideration to attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY which is only 15 minutes from my childhood home. I LOVE to cook and that served me well when I met Alton Brown and started working on Good Eats. I still have dreams of opening a small restaurant one day, though if that one doesn't happen, it's ok. :)

Great post, Walter. The article you are referring to is very thought-provoking. Unfortunately, the link in your post leads to a hacked site in Arabic. Don't know if this hacking was to the site itself, or something that happened here on the Cow.

But for those who are looking to find the original article, I hope this link helps: http://www.inspirationandchai.com/Regrets-of-the-Dying.html

No, the site was hacked and it had nothing to do with the COW. I have fixed your link (which was broken) and have also used your link to update Walter's link so that the hacked site is no longer pointed to.

Happy new year to you all.
