Nonbroadcast Video Distribution

Hello,

I have a project that is a self-help type video and would like some advice on distribution. I've searched the forum and was surprised to not find much discussion on the topic.

So, it boils down to this. If you create a video (self-help type) and would like to sell it, how would you go about it?

Start a website. Use Google Adwords.
Post portions of the video on YouTube, Vimeo, etc, and Expert Village or a similar site that caters to self help typing or whatever videos ;) . Advertise.
We do a lot of direct mail. We attend trade shows. Try to get some local press. Try to get reviewed in a magazine or journal related to your topic.
While a bit dated now, I enjoyed the book "Futurize your Enterprise."

You gotta spend money to make money. There is tons of competition.

What is your video about (not really typing presumably)?

initially, i was thinking more of a dvd distribution - although online distribution is also very relevant. the video is about inspiring creativity. tough task i know, but there are things that have helped me get a different perspective on things and thought may be of use to others.

mike, you are in a field that enjoys little competition i'd think. i'm familiar with cine-med because i have done quite a bit of surgical videos as well. but, i do hear your point of breaking through the clutter.

as far as dvd distribution any thoughts?

still kind of vague Geoff.
Who is your audience? What's your business plan?

hi mike, the audience can be as specific to people in "creative" professions or as broad as to a general audience.

as far as the business plan - that's what i'm trying to formulate.

anyone have any experience with amazon or the other retailers?

Amazon pays you like 50% of your retail price. You need an ISBN number to get listed.
Do you have a website for your product?
Try Google ad words.

No website of the product yet - in concept stage. I appreciate the suggestions in your previous post, by the way.

Do you know if they require exclusivity?
