Need advice with approaching for Sponsors or Partners

My name is Geoff Richardson and I run a small production company
called Triangle Productions Inc. Comprised of talented film
professionals, we have recently finished producing the pilot for a
unique series primed for the evolving landscape of episodic television.

"Thwackers" is the comedic story of three friends who decide to take
on the world of competitive video gaming. The series is geared toward
the ever expanding video game market, a market that has seen more
growth in recent years than any other form of media.

We are currently seeking funding and or sponsorships to continue making
what is sure to be a successful series. Whether it's on traditional
television, an online series or an even newer form of distribution,
we've done our research and we know there's an audience out there just
waiting for a show like "Thwackers".

Cold-calling is your best bet. MOst want rating numbers before sponsoring a show but you will find with your sales efforts that some will indeed invest in an idea they like. You'll have to offer an incentive that locks them in at a low price once it goes big. This is what will talk them into doing it now as opposed to later when a gamble is not involved.

My response for grants / air time also apply to this. Get yourself aligned with a proven production company.

I know who my market is and we are skipping the Broadcast market (TV cable) It will be fully online with a web page to support. The web page will have room for sponsor ads.

Im assuming in my propasal I will generate a rate sheet. With different levels. Example... Product placement (with a guarenteed onscreen time) , Webpage ad space, Sponsor page.

Im going to try to alien myself with a established online video distributor (ign.com, gamespot.com, gametrailers.com, pwnordie.com) part of making the videos exclusive to thier site would be getting "metrics" ahead of time for a proposal to sponsors. And might lend itself to credibility.

Im realistic enough to know I wont make money on the first season, but I would like to @ least feed my "differed payment" crew and cast during the shoot. Ha.

If anyone can give advice or info on how to generate a product placment and web page ads proposal I would really appreciate it.

to sell ads your potential sponsors will want to see numbers of viewers. getting sponsors for a first effort/one episode will be unlikely

can we see the show?

Ya I kindov figured that it would be tough for the first one. I was hopeing that after they (sponsor) saw the pilot and I had a agreement with a high trafic intenet video distributor who caters to the specific market) it would help.

I was going to release the Pilot and use the numbers also, but I wanted to give the sponsor the ability to place products. Thats one reason why I havnt released it yet. But if I get nowhere I will, for the #'s.

But they will have to see examples.
My first sponsors were in trade for videos. I have more free parts on my daily driver than I can shake a stick at but they are now in line as monitary sponsors as a result of my investment and their faith int he project.
Here is my sponsor page if it helps at all:

Now, I could have gone high road with a vibe that feels like the show is already a hit. I found early on that my one-man-band approach is what attracts these guys...who are often one man band companies.

Before people are going to want to form a partnership w/you (either sponsors or a site like IGN or GameTrailers) you are going to need to show how partnering w/you benefits them. You are probably going to have to go it alone for a little bit and generate some numbers before other parties will take interest in you. For example, Zero Punctuation firs appeared on YouTube before getting picked up by The Escapist, Monty Oum put up Haloid as a user movie on GameTrailers and was able to swing that into a job w/Midway, and Screw Attack built up an attractive following which is why GameTrailers was interested in partnering with them.

I'm not an expert by any means, but this is just my take on things based on observation.

Out of curiosity is your show targeted towards casual gamers who Wii-it-up every now and then or hardcore gamers that are aware of the different cyber-leagues/competitions?

Thanks for the advice and info guys. And Im pretty sure you are right.

My market is for mid to hardcore gamers. We have alot of game culture (and some movie) references in it. I envision it along the same vein as "Spaced". We also have to strong female leads.

I know there is a market for the show. Iv even considered doing a donations button for it. Along the same model as
