John Edwards' political action committee paid $100,000 in a four-month period to a newly formed company (Midline Groove Productions) run by Reille Hunter, although she had virtually no experience making campaign films, ABC News reported.

The payments from Edwards' One America Committee to Midline Groove Productions LLC started on July 5, 2006, five days after Hunter incorporated the firm in Delaware.

Midline provided "Website/Internet services," according to reports that Edwards' PAC filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Hunter directed production of four Web videos showing the presidential wannabe in supposedly candid moments as well as delivering a public address on morality.

Midline's work product consists of four YouTube videos showing Edwards in informal settings as he prepares to make speeches in Storm Lake, Iowa, and Pittsburgh, as he prepares for an appearance on "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" and travels in Uganda in 2006.

Edwards' PAC followed the six-figure payment with two smaller payments totaling $14,461, the last on April 1, 2007.

Edwards met Rielle Hunter at a bar in New York city in 2006. She was later hired by him to produce campaign documentaries for his website even though she had no experience in doing so. She was paid to the tune of $114,000 for her work.

Hunter would travel with Edwards throughout the country during the campaign and went to Africa with him as well.

I love the lyrics to the theme music.

"When you look into a mirror
do you like what's looking at you?
Now that you've seen your true reflection
what on earth are ya gonna do?"

Actually, since this IS a BUSINESS forum, and after actually viewing all four web clips, Edwards got a bargain at that price. Start adding up all the billables, two camera ops, an editor, a producer, and 3 staff. Start adding up all the different days of shooting, hotel and food costs, at least two days shooting in Uganda with at least half the staff, I actually think I would have billed out more than that for the same job. As anyone who has actually produced national ads for either party can attest, most 30 second commercials cost WAY more than 100K to shoot and produce, and that is before they hit the airwaves.

do you suppose they licensed the music? That could cost $50,000 right there. Probably not however.

If anyone wants a gig like that you know what ya gotta do.
Seriously many people get there start in the business that way, some even with a strong academic background in tv/film. I am not promulgating it be we all know people who started like that. Some wither but others thrive.

You know I may be new here but to be honest with you it is all about who you know and the connections you make. I wouldn't be half surprised if someone at the company were related to McCain or someone on that campaign.

Let me first say, welcome to the COW. Second, I've seen that happen a lot. The first job I applied to at a corporation, the secretary accidentally told me that they where going to give the position to one of the employees son and posted the job because it was company policy.

Chris is right. By the time you factor in travel, crew, cutting, equipment and conception, 114k really isn't that bad. In fact, I won't let any of our directors conceive client's love children for less than 200k, plus residuals.

Favorite quote from the first vid: "Ah wont America to know the reyall me".

Johnny boy, be careful what you wish for.... :-).

Yes, and until Americans learn to differentiate what happens below the belt with what is actually present above the shoulders, we will all deserve what we get.
