audio levels

Hello All,

I'm doing some audio cleanup on a low budget film. when looking at the db levels, it looks pretty low to me. does this look normal or what db level should the audio be at?

here is a shot of the audio

Yes, they are low ... I would boost them to a min of -1db but as low as they are you may end up with a noise floor issue ............. WILLIE

As I recall, the typical peak for film should be at -9db. And that's exactly where it is. So you should be fine. Film is much MUCH more dynamic than modern music, which means dialogue will appear very, very low. Below is a short sample of a rip from a THX mastered major motion picture. As you can see, the levels seem very low.
