OGG Video
on Mar 29, 2012 at 3:25:25 am

I need to convert some videos to .ogg so my website will work in Firefox. I downloaded Miro Video Converter, which works. However, the files are far too big and Miro doesn't give you customization features.

What program are folks using to convert to .ogg video? I would like to be able to control my resolution and bit rate.

Hi Sam,

What operating system are you using?
There are several applications (free and paid) that will work well for you.

Let us know. You might get some more specific feedback as to a good file converter or other tool you can use.

Thanks,

Thank you all for your replies. I am using Windows Vista 32 bit.

The site is video heavy and dependent on the videos loading as quickly as possible, so I need to be able to choose a low bit rate and resolution.

Hi Sam.

Thanks - That will help folks to know what you're running.

Perhaps another piece of information would be to ask you what type of format the files are currently in now?

All you said was you wanted to convert "video files" to a .ogg format....but what are they before you want to convert them?

hello...

keep in mind too (and you might already know this) that ogg is not supported by all browsers - you'd need to include other formats for ie, chrome and safari...

Thanks again for the replies.

Matt: My original file can be almost whatever I like: .mpg, .mov (any codec except ProRes), .mp4, avi. These videos will be small snippets that I will edit from a larger project in Sony Vegas, which handles nearly every video format except .ogg, ironically.

Curtis: Yup, I am aware that IE 9, Safari, and Chrome accept h.264 .mp4 files, which my editing system supports.

Thanks again, I am a video editor by trade and have just begun experimenting with HTML5.
