Best measure for css text

With a background in print graphics I always use points as the unit of measure for text. But is there an 'industry standard'unit of measure for text that better works for all screen resolutions?

I was taught that "em" is better for screen and use with CSS. You see a lot of people using pt size though. Check this out at w3c
