I watched the BCC7 Particle Array 3D tutorial where a gif/mov. image was placed as a custom shapes particle. Can that be done in BCC8 for Vegas using the image layers in the particle shape drop down. If so how and what do I need to convert a .gif to a .mov file. Thanks

Hi Mike,

Can you please post a link to the tutorial so that I can comment on exactly the piece that you are looking at?

One thing to keep in mind is that you should apply the filter to the clip that you want to use as an image layer. So, import the .mov file into Vegas Pro, then place this into the timeline. You then apply the filter to that piece of media in the timeline and pull the media into the filter by selecting it in the filter controls.

Thanks,

Peter.

Thanks Peter, here is the tutorial I referenced. It is for After Effects. I try to take what I can from them and apply to Vegas. Although, basically the same there are enough differences to cause some confusion. The part in question here is at the 8:40 mark:

Kevin also mentions he uses a .gif file. How does he change that to .mov?
Thanks

In Vegas Pro you don't have to. Vegas will playback GIF files on the timeline without any problems. Just apply BCC Particle Array 3D to the GIF event.

If you did want to make a MOV file, I would drop the GIF into a new Vegas Pro project, set the project properties to match the GIF dimensions, render to the same dimensions using QuickTime and the PNG codec.
