RED5 filters to color/light correction...
on Aug 10, 2012 at 6:54:44 pm

Hi,

I am trying to begging in the right way with my Vegas11 + RED5 workflow.

About video, in most of my footage (interviews around 2 hours length) I need to deal with light variation. Sometimes it begins darker and ends lighter (and vice versa). There is a short sample here, without any treatment=> http://my.cloudme.com/carloscadu/timelapse.

Through Vegas I would use "color corrector" + "color curves" to deal with. Would RED5 provide any filter that could deal with in a better way than these Vegas tools?

Thanks in advance,
Cadu

Hi Carlos,

For that, I'd suggest using the BCC 3 Way Color Grade filter in Boris RED. No automation but you can keyframe the exposure control to handle the light variation. Use the info window to get precise measurement of the light adjustment while you the grade the shot.

Cheers,

Peter.

Thanks for information Peter!

Just to clarify, could I deal with some contrast adjustment by using BCC 3 Way Color Grade, or to that should I use another filter?

Cheers,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Yes, you can use the 3 Way Color Grade in RED 5 to take care of that - remember, you'll need to keyframe the parameter of choice (perhaps exposure) to even out the lighting in the shot. You might want to try the BCC Flicker Fixer too just to see if this can solve the problem without the need for keyframing.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

It seems BCC Flicker Fixer isn't available at RED5 bundle, is it?
So far I couldn't find that...

Thanks,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

You are correct - RED 5 does not include BCC Flicker Fixer, however, you can download the trial installer for BCC and give that a shot.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for information again!

I am investing on RED5 bearing in mind it is the most balanced featured product from Boris. Am I right about that?

Otherwise, BCC seems to provide great tools as well.

Also, it seems there are much overlap of RED5 and BCC features. Do you know what would be the basic differences between RED5 and BCC?

Cheers,
Carlos
