BCC7 (Vegas) Wire Remover Tool Question -

I have a wall outlet in the background of an interview shot and the client wants it to disappear. I am using Wire Remover - Clone Method (if I am using the wrong tool, please let me know). It works, but is there any way to see/preview the clone center? I have to switch to the "Rendered" view and drag the center target around to find a section of the wall that I want to use for the clone over the outlet. But other than the X-Y position, I have no visual clue where the clone center actually is.

Am I doing something wrong or using the wrong tool?

TIA

HI,

Wire Remover should be able to handle that but sometimes the Match Move filter can be easier . Better than either of these options is Boris RED.

If I had to do the task that you describe, I would apply RED to the clip, then create a spline mask shape over the wall outlet. Then I'd motion track the mask so that it's locked to the socket (assuming a camera move here) and to eliminate the socket I'd place the original clip right behind it and offset the XY position so that the masked region, which created a knock-out hole where the socket was, is now filled with a similar background. You can blend the edges of the spline mask shape by applying a blur filter to the mask.

Or you could use the clone paint feature in RED to do this and motion track the paint strokes if the camera is moving.

I hope this helps.

Peter.

Thanks for the quick reply. I could barely afford BCC7, so Red is off the radar for now. (But, I did ask if there was a better tool). The Wire Removal Tool in clone method does work, but other than the X-Y coordinates, I have no visual clue where the clone center is at.

Using BCC in other hosts there would be an overlay for the onscreen point picker and so that would act as a better visual reference for where the clone center was within the image. Unfortunately Vegas doesn't support overlays that way and I agree it's a bit awkward in this case since the XY point being adjusted is not obvious in the effect output. I just recorded a quick screencap movie with voiceover offering an admittedly unsatisfactory workaround and a suggestion for how we (BorisFX) might provide that functionality in Vegas by adding another choice in the "view" popup menu ;

Wow - Thank you Dirk. I owe you a lunch for the hours you just saved me. I have 14 more clips of this project to clone out the wall outlets and your workaround is definitely going to be a time saver.
