When using the star Generator in BCC 7 with galaxies on and shining stars I get render mistakes regularly in preview as well a in the final render. What would be the remedy?

Hi,

What is the exact nature of the errors that you mention? Can you describe them in detail?

Meanwhile, would it be possible for you to try to do this in After Effects with the same filter to see if it works in that environment?

Thanks,

Peter.

I am actually working in After Effects. Sorry that I didn't mention that. It is somethinh I believe I have noticed before. Every so many seconds a part of the picture is blank for a couple of frames. The things that should have been there just don't show up. Couple of frames later the picture is complete again.

Very odd alright. What are the dimensions of the frame? What (if any) parameters in the filter are set to animate?

Thanks,

Peter.

The composition is in old fashioned PAL 720x576 (not anamorphic). No animated keyframes. Galaxies are on as well as shinig stars

Could you please save the settings file from the BCC Stars filter and send that to me - I'll then try to reproduce it here on one of our systems. Interestingly I just used a Mac with AE CS 5.5 and BCC 8 to render out a 10 second HD 1920 x 1080 clip and every frame was as expected. I'll try it again with your settings.

You can send that to me at peterm@borisfx.com

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the quick responses!! I believe I just found the problem. I had 'multiple layers' on with the move type 'forward'. When I unchecked the mutiple layers box en put the move type back to 'side', the problem had gone. Before all this, AE had crashed when I put the move type to 'forward' without checking the mutiple layers box. Is this somehow meaningful?

Well I'm really glad that you were able to discover the issue and are now able to complete the project. I'll see if setting up the filter as you have done on one of our systems enables us to reproduce the missing frame on render.

Anyway, glad that you got it to work.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter, Here I am again. Same problem. Turning off the pulitple layer checkbox hasn't helped, it turns out. Did you find out anything?

Hi Itamar,

We've seen some results that display some flicker in the galaxies but only in the render when we have the compression turned up to a very high level. I sent you a clip of this today. When we render a full quality we do not see this issue at all. Are you seeing flickering with PTR or with a high quality render?

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi Peter, Sorry, but what do you mean by PTR? Apart from that; yes this is a MPEG2 render 4:3 SD, so high compression. I'll try a higher quality render later this evening and report back to you

I get this same problem using Both BCC 7 and 8 in Premiere Pro CS5.5.

I noticed that in the release notes for BCC 8.0 Vegas it says this:

"BCC Stars will occasionally exhibit horizontal bands of artifacts in the star field and galaxy controls."
http://www.borisfx.com/borisfxwiki/index.php/Boris_Continuum_Complete_8.0.0...

I didn't see anything noted for Premiere Pro, but this is the exact problem. There is no suggestion for a workaround either.

With Premiere Pro I have had better luck turning off hardware acceleration and doing the render that way. Though it takes HOURS just to render an 8min video (when it would normally render in 5-10min). My render settings are nothing extreme - 1080p H264 MP4 at 10Mbps.

I came to this forum hoping someone had an answer for this problem, but it seems even with the release of BCC 8, this bug has still not been fixed.

In my own experiments, it seems this bug has to do with hardware acceleration. I am currently using a nVidia 560Ti 1GB.
