Vegas pro 10c, BCC7

Using match-move on some DV footage, the motion-tracker looses itself sometimes.

On the Vegas timeline with match-move open I manually move the KF tracker to correct the issue. When I playback I see my changes working - the match-move'd item moves correctly.

However, when I save and exit the project and go back in my changes are lost, and the original tracked movement - with all the mistakes - show up again.

I can confirm I have definitely saved the project..

My question - is the workflow described for amending track-motion in BCC 7 correct - scrubbing through the clip and with 'track on the fly' enabled, and when I find an errant clip, deselect 'on the fly', manually adjust the track-motion KF, and then re-enable 'on the fly' and scrub to the next incorrect frame. When doing this BTW, I do not clear the render cache - but if I do (I did try it) it does not seem to make any difference.

Thanks

You are not following the proper procedure. When the tracking gets lost, you need to return to the last tracked frame, clear the render cache, and continue tracking. There is no need to ever deselect "on-the-fly" until you are all done tracking.

Watch my Boris TV episode on Motion Tracking to see how it's done:

The first time I use the tracker in this tutorial it fails and I show you how to recover.

John,

Believe me - I have watched (and rewatched) all your BCC tutorials...

My concern is around what happens when I go back into motion track.

For example, I motion-tracked an event. I then decided to render it so I could see the full event running in real-time (still on an older 32 bit machine, so it has a bit of an issue previewing in real-time, and ram-based preview on a 32bit machine has only so much ram available...).

In the render I noticed there were a few spots where I wanted to adjust the key frame, so I open up the event again, go into match-move then scrub to the place where the problem keyframe is.

If I adjust a few frames in the middle of the track, should I still clear render-cache every time I move the scrubber?

Is there any danger that going back into a motion-tracked event and changing a few frames somewhere in the middle of the event will cause problems for tracked frames further down the timeline in the event?

Thanks

Yes, I would clear the render cache before each time you try to track even if you are going back to re-track something again. Don't forget that you can change the size of the tracker to allow for more movement by making the search area larger.
