I have got match move working fine with motion tracker when there only two tracks in a project.

I am trying to match move two separate items on the one track. I have two talents on-screen, each holding an item, and I want to match-move the item each of them is holding and the only way I could think of it working is to have the 4 tracks:

Track 1 contains the event which has the clip which is motion-tracked
Track 2 contains the clip to be match-moved to the motion track on track 1
Track 3 contains a copy of the event on track 1. The motion-track on this event tracked the second item to be match-moved
Track 4 contains the clip to be match-moved to the motion track on track 3

clear - ehh??

The problem is that when previewing track 3 is moved around the screen as well as track 2, as if it is being motion-tracked as well.

So, my questions are:

a) Is it possible to stop the match-move from Track 1 appearing to match move both track 2 and 3 - I want it to move track 2 only

b) Is it possible to motion-track and match-move two items on the one event?

Thanks

It would help if you told us:

1) What Boris product are you using? (RED, BCC7, ??)

2) What host NLE are you using (Vegas Pro, FCP, Avid, Premiere, AE, ???)

As both of those would affect the correct answer.

Wow - I cannot believe I did that... You are of course correct:

Sony Vegas Pro 10c
BCC 7

To summarise - I have a track with an event on it. The event contains footage which has two talents on it - each of which is holding an item that needs to be motion tracked. I would then like to match-move a separate track against each of two motion-tracked items.

Thanks,

The problem you are having is that 2 to 1 transforms in Vegas Pro affect all of the tracks below them not just the next track. This is why they are interacting with each other.

What I would do is place tracks 1 & 2 in a separate project and apply the match move there. Then place that project as the source for the next match move as a nested project. Because you have moved the match move from tracks 1 & 2 into their own project, it will no longer affect the other tracks. I'm not at my NLE currently so I can't test any of this out so I'm just "thinking out loud" at this point but it should work.

Just to recap: You will have 3 tracks instead of 4 and only 2 tracks in Vegas. Two of the tracks will be in a nested project, and that nested project will be the source for the third track to match move. Does that make sense?

It's like using comps in After Effects (if you are familiar with that concept) What you are doing is pre-composing the first match move and using that composition in your next match move.

Thanks John for this explanation. Your way is more simple in a master project.
I ran into this problem a few weeks back. At that time, I use 3 tracks, parent 1 & 2.
- Track 1 sets to matchmove composite.
- Parent composite mode set to matchmove
- Track 2 and 3 normal alpha composite mode.
