Boris Red Problem in FCP
on May 5, 2010 at 7:21:04 pm

Hello fellow Boris users:
I am using Boris Red 4.3.1 inside FCP 6.0.6. I can put Boris Red on a clip and open it in FCP (without having to launch the Red engine) I then create my effect but when I render it on the timeline in FCP the effect length is cut in half. The clip length is not shortened there is just black on the timeline. I have been getting around this by outputting a quicktime of the effect and bringing it in as a new piece of media, but I think you can see the problems with working that way. Has anyone seen this before and if so how did you solve it.

Jon,
Is this something that just started after some time, or is this something that's been happening since you first created a RED transition in FCP? If so we can see about reloading the cache and preference files. Also, from your description, I presume the transition plays successfully if you preview the effect inside the RED interface?

Thanks.

It is not a transition but clip. It doesn't matter if the clip is one second or five seconds the effect is "fit" into the first half, time wise, of the clip and the rest of the clip is black. To answer your first question about has this just started I would say it started about a month ago.

Jon, you had said in your post "reloading the cache and preference files." how do I go about doing that? I think I'll try that and see if that helps.

William,

I think I got you over on the FCP thread you posted. Check out my response there.

Jon,
The things you'd want to trash are the FCP Cache files, and the RED preferences. The folder you'd want to navigate to (with FCP closed), is here -
Macintosh HD :: Users :: [ Current User ] :: Library :: Preferences

Inside here, delete the "Boris RED 4.3™ Preferences" file, and possibly the "com.borisfx.app.Boris RED.plist" as well. Then, enter the folder called 'Final Cut Pro User Data' - inside there, delete the two files: "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" & "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache".

After this, relaunch FCP and it would be to good to test RED in an all new project, just to see if there's a change.

I want to thank you Jon and Matt for helping me. I first trashed the FCP prefs that you suggested but that did not solve the problem. I quit FCP and trashed the Boris and FCP prefs and that fixed the problem, I just wanted to let you know in case some else has the same problem. Thanks again.

Have you checked "percent done" in the filters tab? I have seen the same result when accidentally checking that box when I didn't mean to.

Thanks for the heads up Peter.
Since I trashed my prefs it may not be checked now, but if I get a reoccurrence of the same problem I'll look there first.
