Maybe I have missed it but is there a way use this filter on a compound path from illustrator.

They import into AE as multiple masks.

Extruded Spline seems to only support a single path per application of the filter.

In this case I want to punch holes out of a extruded circle.

Hi,

The answer is yes.

To do this, create the compound path object in Adobe Illustrator, then save it as an Illustrator eps file. This can be opened within the BCC Extruded EPS filter in AE, preserving the hole in the center of the object.

I hope this helps,

Peter.

Maybe I am missing a step or a plug-in.

I have a BCC Extruded Spline but no EPS. I think that is what you are talking about.

How do I open the EPS file with it?

I have tried to past the path from illustrator but still comes across as a compound path.

Make that....

I have tried to paste the path from illustrator but still comes across as a compound path (as multiple masks in difference mode).

I think the problem is that you need to download the latest version of BCC 6. We made an update that includes a couple of new filters - BCC Swish Pan and BCC Extruded EPS. It's the Extruded EPS filter that you need to extrude the Illustrator EPS file with compound paths.

You can download the free update to the latest version here:

Cheers,

Peter.

Just now downloaded the latest Mac version of the trial.

No SwishPan was installed and no Extrude EPS.

Is there another place to get the latest version that I am missing?

That's rather odd alright - I would have expected the filters to exist for you just as they do for me. Hmmm ... why don't you send me your set up info (platform/os version etc) which might help me understand why they don't show up for you as they do for me.

Did you uninstall before you reinstalled the update?

Cheers,

Peter.

I am on a MacBook Pro, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, nvidia 8600m GT with 256MB VRAM.

Mac OS 10.5.6
After Effects 9.0.1 (as part of Master Collection CS4)

No I did not uninstall. I did check the CS4 Media Core folder and the AE Plug-Ins and there is nothing new

Also the trial installer is dated Feb 28th, 2009

Also just tried uninstall and reinstalling and even downloaded it again.

Still Feb 18th, no Extrude EPS, No SwishPan.

Do you have another installer for the AE plug-in I can download somewhere?

I'm checking with engineering on this - you should have both filters. Thanks for providing the system specs and I'll be back in touch as soon as the release engineer on this project has a chance to get back to me.

Cheers,

Peter.

Okay ... so the word that I got back from engineering is that the Extrude EPS and the Swish Pan filters are registration incentives ... they are not made available in BCC 6 until the software is licensed.

Hope this helps to explain the absence of these filters from your system.

Cheers,

Peter.

I am a owner. I have licenses to half of Boris' product catalog. Just ask Kevin D. in sales.

I found how to download the SwishPan filter but where is the Extrude EPS download for owners.

Also I have installed the unlock code for the BCC6.

Hi Seannon,

I'll find out where the Extruded EPS filter is for you tomorrow when the engineers are back on line.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Seannon,

So the filter that you are looking for, Extruded EPS, is currently in the final stages of internal testing and should be made ready for general release shortly. I'll let you know as soon as it is available.

Cheers,

Peter.

Yep they got back to me.

Hope it comes out soon as I want to try it. I like the material rendering in the BCC6 filters.

Side note though. And maybe I am just being dumb right now...

I think this is in general a limitation of AE but is there a way to get multiple layers to act as a scene?

For instance if you have text in front of a spline and want to pan around it say from the front to the back and have both items with a 3D effect and have them render in the camera's perspective of z order.

I figured the Z Space I-III might help but have not had a chance to play around with them.

Thank You
