First FCP kept crashing with BCC 5 installed
so I removed it
then it started crashing with Magic Bullet!!!

Its killing me because at the start of my project everything was working smooth
UNTIL
I hit the 30min mark and BCC5 started crashing on timeline renders
THEN
I couldn't export a quicktime 'cause that was crashing too
"FCP quit unexpectedly, the may have been caused by a BCC5 *** plug-in"

I even upgraded BCC to 5.0.5 to no avail-
the project wouldn't even open!!

I read in another post here that the same thing was happening to someone with motion

I'm using an ATI X1900 radeon card
in a macpro 2007 intel 3Hz system
with 7gb ram
1.4tb video drive
running leopard
and FCSTUDIO 2

Now Peter said he may have a fix for it HERE

not sure what else to do-
at this point I've uninstalled BCC5
thanks
J-P

Hi,

Well the issue that I helped out with last December, to which you have provided a link in your message, was related to use of ATI Radeon video card - the problem disappeared when that user switched to a different "main" card in the system prefs. I don't know if this will ever be fixed - it's not something that we have any control over.

Can you try an Nvidia Graphics card in the machine to see if this solves the problem?

Thanks,

Peter.

Peter, thanks for the reply-

my windows computer has a NVIDIA 8800GT but I dont think I can use it in my MacPro- or can I?

otherwise I'd have to go buy one...

Well it might work - see if you can find a driver for the mac for this card and if so then it might be okay. Ideally, you might want to see if you can get a halfway decent Nvidia card and if it works keep it but if it doesn't solve the problem then return the card.

Cheers,

Peter.

seems crazy that i have to get a new video card to fix this problem-
Maybe its an openGL problem?
I tried everything from
trashing prefs,obj cache etc
to repairing permissions
etc etc
nothing, and its crazy that the update won't even let me open the project!!!

Hi John,

I understand your frustration with this and if there was something that we could do to circumnavigate the issue then we would do exactly that but unfortunately I don't think there is any other answer. At least for now this appears to be the case.

By the way, have you attempted to open the project with the caps lock enabled before launch? This way, FCP is prevented from attempting to render to the screen before completing the launch process. Can you please give that a shot and let me know if this helps?

Also, what BCC filter were you using when the host crashed? And can you tell me if the Magic Bullet software is FxPlug architecture and not using the AE API? You can see this in the effects window of FCP - if it's FxPlug that will be listed as the filter class to the right of the name of the filter.

Thanks,

Peter.

caps lock ON
open the project with BCC 5.0.1 installed
project doesn't open
error message
"The Application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the BCC Effects plug-in"

as for magic bullet - YES its an FxPlug.
