Since installing Avid Media Composer I have been working my way through the Continuum FX. I have looked at the manuals on the install disc - but I cannot find the answer to a very basic question.
I have a clip on the MC timeline.
It is 2 minutes long
I apply the BCC4 Generators/Sparks
The Spark start from 00:00:00 and end at 02:00:00
I want the effect to begin from 01:50:00
It should not be visible from 00:00:00 to 01:49:29

Also I would like the effect to cease at 01:58:00

I have used keyframes to get the effect working as I want between the "visible" time........ but how do I make it "invisible" at the other times?

Hopefully someone will help me as I stumble around in the dark trying to figure this out!
Regards,
Douglas

Why not make it simple for yourself & do an add edit at 01:50:00 of your 2 min. clip & another add edit at 01:58:00 & apply the effect on that portion of your clip? There's your 8 seconds of spark. :)

William,
That is the single most interesting and useful tip I have had in a long time!
I am only 6 weeks into MC and Boris has always been a puzzling programme to learn.
Your "Add Edit" button tip was a revelation to me.......Thank you very much.

Douglas

Douglas, I'm happy to help. Use that tidbit of a tip any time you want to add ANY filter or whatnot to only a portion of your clip :)

William,
I am not at my editing machine at the moment.... but I had a thought.......
How do you remove "Add Edit" marks?
I know I should be patient and wait until I am back on the machine and check for myself but I guess I am feeling lazy because it is Sunday here.

Well there are two ways that I'm aware of, but the one that acts finicky, on my system at least, is having only that track selected, park the timeline indicator over the edit & go into trim mode (it defaults to double roller), & hit delete. Sometimes this works & other times it thinks I want to delete the whole track, but I never tried to figure out what or if I was doing something wrong.

Or you can do the same as above, but instead of hitting delete, while trim mode is active & double roller, you can press ctrl as you drag either right or left & it will snap to the beginning or end of the clip, therefore removing the add edit.

Try both

Thanks again, William

Your reply sparked off a new question!

So, if I wanted to adjust the length between the 2 "add edit" marks I could use the double-rollers?
Please excuse my basic questions................

Absolutely! Double roller maintains sync by trimming the head & tail on the adjacent clip by the same amount. Meaning if you trim back 2 frames, it's a -2 frames from the previous clip & adding 2 frames to the clip you're trying to lengthen.
