Can't render a comp - help!

RED 3.02 on an XW8000 with 2GB ram and a Quadro 980 card. 500MB dedicated to the frame cache. I've rendered this thing before as an uncompressed Quicktime (took 4+ hours for a 9 second clip) but now it won't. Tried breaking the comp into elements and it still won't render. Tried increasing the frame cache to 1GB and it made no difference. I get a BFX API Error XIImageNative.cpp 738 (not enough memory). I'm watching the Task Manager on this and XP+Red takes about 160MB on the PF graph. When the comp begins to render it jumps up to 1.3GB and then craps out. Trouble is I've done other comps where it was running around 1.6GB just fine. I've tried trashing the .ini file to no avail. I can't break this into smaller bits and without the individual layers looking odd when I bring them back into Avid (it's a 3D thing).
