I imported a .M2V and a .WAV file into Encore to create an .ISO. When I check the timeline properties, the video is 4:3 and 29.97 but the original is 16:9 and 24 frames. The frames seem fine either way but I need to change the aspect ratio and the button is grayed out. How can I change the aspect ratio?

Hi Molly,

Perhaps the wrong encoding settings were used to create the .m2v file? When I export MPEG-2 DVD and use an NTSC Widescreen preset in Media Encoder, Encore automatically sets up as 16:9 when I import the .m2v, never had an issue. I would go back and check the encoding process.

Also, I never use 24p myself, but just checked settings for MPEG-2 DVD export, and once can choose 23.976 manually.

I'd just encode a short sample with new settings, then import to Encore to verify you get desired results before encoding entire program again.

Thanks

Thanks. I'll try that. I may have exported straight from Premiere. I'll try your way and see what happens. Thank you.

Just to clarify, when I said Media Encoder, that was direct from Premiere using File > Export > Media and running AME separately.

Typo - NOT running AME separately!

Quick question Jeff. When you queue the media over to Media Encoder, what Export setting do you use in Premiere?

So I have never actually used queue feature. In Premiere, I use File > Export > Media

Then select MPEG-2 DVD as Format

Then appropriate preset, like NTSC DV Wide Progressive

I set desired bit rate and export, then import resulting assets into Encore and it sees the video as 16:9 and I never have to change anything in Encore, I just author my disc.

Keep in mind that when PR exports MPEG2-DVD 23.976, it is 29.97 (the DVD spec) with pull down for the 23.976.

If you are downrezzing HD, don't forget to set the crop setting to "scale to fill" to avoid the thin black lines on the left and right.
