When you hear a unique few notes or a bar of music that identifies a product - for instance, the three notes of NBC. What is this called? It's not a bumper or tag - those are more complete pieces of music. Does anyone recall the term that I am looking for?

I need the specific term for a royalty-free music search.

There are several terms I've heard: audio identity, audio logo, sonic logo, or sound logo.

Everyone else has access to the same royalty-free sources that you do, so any identity-building pieces you choose may not be distinctive. If you need this to be unique, you may want to hire a composer.

Thanks. It's not a stinger, but close. It was one short word, and it's been bugging me for weeks. A stinger is usually 4 or 8 beats, and the three-tone NBC identifier is a lot shorter than that.

In music it's called a motif. I don't know if that term is used for a branded jingle.

Classic example: First four notes of Beethoven's 5th symphony; used endlessly throughout.

It is called a mnemonics.

Sound branding such as the NBC sound usually accompanied with the NBC Peacock. Or at the end of the Intel commercials.
