Nick CoombesMacbook as a monitor?

Hi,

Is it possible to play back video footage for instant viewing on a Macbook (ie using it as a monitor) or is a portable dvd player the best cheap option?

Thanks

Depends what you mean exactly. Like are you saying I shoot say P2 or XDCAM footage, transfer it to my laptop's harddrive and play on the desktop. Sure that's doable. Or do you mean somehow the computer itself captures live footage and replays it- yes that too is doable with software like Adobe OnLocation. But it's not a particular accurate display for gauging things like exposure, color and focus. Nothing beats a real production monitor for that...

Hi - no I don't mean for anything too detailed. It would just be for media training, so shooting on a Sony Z1 then be able to play back the footage to show the client their behaviour etc on screen.

Sure that would do the trick. But a client HD monitor is more professional IMHO... if ya care about that sorta thingy.
