Getting the gig- dental video
on Feb 8, 2007 at 12:56:31 am

So I am in the chair, head back and saying ahhhhhhhh and the dentist asks me what I do etc.., and says he has been needing to update their video on their website and maybe shooting some procedures etc..,

He told me to send him an email and asked me what I charge.
He gave impression he was too busy to write a script etc..,

So I am putting together a proposal with some suggestions and a demo and a DVD I made of how the interface of his Dental DVD could look etc..,

Any other suggestions on courting a busy customer?
Thanks,
Al

Hope you didn't give too much away in the DVD as he may take your plan and let someone cheaper implement your valuable ideas! It's easy for someone to undercut you now. You've given them all the ideas and the Dentist might shop it. Just a thought! Best of Luck! Chris K.

Yea I caught that... gave some stock stuff and did 10 second montage with some dentist scenes - not too complicated. I think he might be worried about doing biz with a regular patient.

I would probably give him your quote AFTER the root canal!

Well he has not repsonded to emails or anything so I guess that is that.
I hate when I do a demo dvd for nothing. At least he could say he received it. My guess is he doesn't want to do biz with a patient in case something goes wrong which I understand.

The dental humor has been helpful guys. Very toothy.

why would you prepare a custom demo dvd in response to such a casual inquiry? That type of hard sell tactic is not going to work in most situations.

What I would have done is got a few more details about exactly what he wanted - then sent him a link to some clips on my site that I felt would convince him that we had the experience, creativity and expertise to meet/exceed his needs.

Sounds good except he didn't respond to 2 emails which is how he told me to contact him. And just presenting myself at the office would be a no-no.

I waited 2-3 weeks before I dropped off the mockup; less intrusive then a phone call which is the only other option. Letter?? Fax? Instant message?
There was no other communication channel open.

Not a hard sell in my opinion.

I realize now I may not have put all these time frame details in original post.
