Hey gang,

Tried a search but didn't find quite what I was looking for...

I'm shooting an event next Tuesday and need to assemble all of the necessary equipment. So far what I have is three EX1's, one of which will be running a live feed via the SDI OUT connection to TWO projectors. Client doesn't have the budget for a live mix so we want to have one camera dedicated to shooting the stage, which will be shown on two projectors.

My questions:

1. What is the best way to split a single BNC cable from the EX1's SDI OUT to two projectors? I haven't seen the venue's projectors but I'm told they should be something like a Barco capable of receiving an HD SDI signal. Is it simply a matter of splitting it with something like this? http://www.argosycable.com/product.asp?urn=2354&c_urn=51

2. How far can you go with BNC before you need to boost the signal, and will the signal degrade significantly if it is split to two projectors over, say, a 100 meter run?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use a passive distribution amp. Especially given the length of cable run involved I would use an active da, such as http://www.kramerelectronics.com/products/model.asp?pid=687#t. Still, I can't find any reference to how far it will drive the signal before any significant degradation. BTW, you definitely need to be 100% certain of which projectors will be used before you show up for the job so that you are sure to bring the right equipment. From your description of the setup it wasn't obvious to me that you were sure about the projectors. You might want to see if the client will allow you to spec the projectors being used so that you control all aspects of the tech side of things.

Thanks for the reply. I'm reasonably sure the projectors are HD-SDI ready but I'm going to bring converters to change it into an analog signal if they are not.

So what is the maximum recommended run for BNC cable? I figured a couple hundred feet would be ok. Sorry- I don't usually do live feeds so I'm not familiar with this stuff.

This AJA DA appears to fill the bill as well, and is a bit less expensive; http://www.aja.com/products/converters/converters-hd-hd5da.php

Would it be similar in functionality to the Kramer DA? The specs say it will support HD SDI runs up to 100 meters. I don't think the run will be more than 75-100 meters.

After doing a little more research online, I'm finding information which suggests 100 meter runs of high quality BNC cable is acceptable without a DA. Can anyone confirm this?
