Pana ag dv2000 error message F05

Inserted a tape. It won't play or eject. Displays F05. Anyone know anything about this error code. Panasonic ag dv2000.

Thanks,
Paul

This happened to me several times, all of them when using Sony 80 minute tapes. I switched to Panasonic MQ tapes over a year ago and haven't had a tape jam since.
When the Sonys got stuck, I would first unplug the unit and wait a minute. Plug the unit back in, remove the top cover off the DV2000 and you will be able to see the tape carriage. Turn on the power. When you press the eject button, simultaneously use your finger or a screwdriver to wiggle the tape and help get it unjammed and the carriage will eject.
Chances are that the spot where the tape was when it got stuck will be damaged. Also, I had a problem with a jammed tape playing over the damaged area, where it would get jammed in the 2000 again, and even get jammed in any other player or camera at that damaged spot.
Good luck.

Paul,
Just curious as to the manufacturer of the tape that got jammed? Only Sony 80 minutes got stuck in my 2000. Never the Sony 60s, and never Panasonics.
Thanks,
Marc

Hello Marc,

It's the full size Sony DVCam/184 tapes that get stuck. I've had this deck for several years and have never had this problem until now. Oddly, the Sony/60 MiniDV tapes continue to work fine but if I pop in a DVCam/184 it jams again. I have never used anything but sony tapes in my cameras and deck as I understand each brand uses a different lubricant and mixing the tapes may cause problems. Now I have a dilema. Do I give the full size panasonic tapes a try or do I send the deck in for what I'm sure will be an expensive repair bill.

Come to think of it, the problem went away after I took my 2000 in for a routine cleaning and maintenance. I didn't mention the jamming problem to the tech that cleaned it for me, but I think the problem never came back after the servicing. (He recommended I switch to Panasonic tapes)

Marc,
After you had it cleaned did you ever try the Sony/80 again or did you stick with the Panasonic.

Thanks,
Paul

I only use Panasonic now, but once in a while one of my shotters gives me Sony 80s to edit and so far (knock on wood) they haven't jammed.

Marc

I'm going to take the deck in to be cleaned. Hopefully I'll be as lucky...thanks again for your time.
