I tried to change my location in the profile by typing the new one when prompted but it doesn't stick. Where do I go about it?

Thanks

Hello Michael,

Your detected location will change when you IP address changes, because your IP changes frequently, this will happen frequently.

On the other hand, the location which is stated on your public profile (http://my.creativecow.net/Michael-Aranyshev) will not change until you manually change it.

Abraham

Hi Abraham,

I'm trying to change my location here: http://my.creativecow.net/manage_location.php. It doesn't work.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for reporting your problems with this page. Either the page was out of date, due to a Google map update, or your JavaScript was disabled.

I believe this link is working, and the newest version of the location update system:

http://cow.creativecow.net/manage/location

The old link is now redirecting to the new location. I also added a note in the new page, which will appear if you do not have JavaScript enabled. JavaScript must be enabled for the update to work correctly.

Please let us know if you run into any more difficulties.

Thanks again!

Abraham

I have JavaScript enabled, pop-up block disabled, all 3rd party extensions disabled in Safari. I emptied the caches and quit and relaunched Safari. Still there is just empty space where Google map is supposed to be at the link you provided.

Sorry

Hmm... that is very strange.

Do you get any note about JavaScript above the empty space?
What version of Safari are you using?
Do you have this issue in Chrome and/or Firefox?

Are you able to see this page:
http://cr8v.co/wPL

or this page:
http://forums.creativecow.net/docs/forums/readpost/h/map.php?lon=-120.72879...

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this for you.

Abraham

I don't get any note about JavaScript above the empty space.
My Safari is version 7.0.3 (9537.75.14).
I get the same behaviour in Firefox.

I can see both links.

There is some development. When I switch from TimeWarner Cable to T-Mobile the map on the page is loading. I can edit my location there, both the pin on the map and the name in the field above the map.. It just doesn't show in my profile.

It sounds like there is some issue with your ISP blocking some content there.
I have the same version of Safari, and it works well for me.
Perhaps you could test using Firebug, or Chrome's development tools to check what specifically is being blocked. I would assume it is something between your ISP and Google, but you'll need to dig around on your end to find out what it is specifically.

This is a good tool for finding what you are looking for:

Hope this helps.

Were you ever able to change your location? No matter what I do, the location for my Creative Cow profile is stuck on Brooklyn. I've tried to set it to Phildelphia many times from different browsers and on different connections. When I click on “Manage Location,” it properly lists Philadelphia and shows Philly marked on the map, but the location on the main page of my profile refuses to update. Also, my job notifications are still coming in for the New York area, instead of Philadelphia.

Partially. It shows the edited location at the top of the page in the forums, but in my profile page it is still the original one.

You can change the static one for your profile in your account settings:

You can but it doesn't stick.

Which location doesn't stick? There are two different location fields, as I mention in this post:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/1/859585#859586
The one you can set in your account settings will stick, and doesn't change automatically once it is set. The other does change, dependent upon your IP address changing.

Thanks for your help, but we’re going in circles with this thread. The problem isn’t with the location tracking. The problem we are having is that the one you set in account settings doesn't stick.

In my case, I have set it for Philadelphia many times, where I am physically located, but it stills says Brooklyn on my profile front page and in the “Your Location” field of the edit profile page.

Hello Dax,

I can see how this would be confusing, as there are two location labels. Are you managing your location here?

Is there anyone we contact about this? I don’t see a technical support contact on the contact page. I’m still getting job notifications for New York with no way to change my location.

Yes, I can help you with this. Job subscriptions are controlled here:
https://jobs.creativecow.net/jobsSubscribe.php
But I'm not seeing you subscribed to our jobs newsletter. I'll contact you directly, so you can forward me more details or emails you're getting.

Thanks for your help, Abraham! I’m not sure if I did something differently this time or it was one of the adjustments you made, but I was able to enter my location by typing it directly into the location field of the edit profile page. It appears to have stuck this time.

Good news! I made a couple changes to help things be a little more straight forward. Looks like we worked it out. Thanks for the feedback =)
