Final Cut randomly freezes
on May 1, 2012 at 5:52:58 am

I've recently been encountering a rather annoying issue with Final Cut that I'm not quite sure how to troubleshoot. Every now and then Final Cut will freeze, give me the wheel of death for about 10 seconds, and then continue on as though nothing happened. This seems to happen regardless of what I'm doing, as in during playback, while trimming clips, while rearranging clips, dragging clips in from the viewer, or previewing clips in the viewer etc.

If it freezes during playback, it tells me it's because the discs are slow, but we're running our data through fibre to a raid system, using FibreJet as the controller. I've spoken to them and they've said all our data transfer speeds are normal. Although it only seems to be glitching on projects with clips that are over a minute - both sourced from tape and HDD cameras.

I've trashed the preferences and it's made no difference. Not entirely sure what to do next to work out what's causing the problem.

We're running OS 10.6.8 on a 2 x 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Zeon with 8GB DDR3 RAM. Graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 and we're running Final Cut 7.0.3. Capture Card is a AJA Kona LHi.

Any help is appreciated!
