Haven't done much DVD authoring in quite a while, but back when it was our main delivery media, I remember that most player incompatibility problems were due to the brand of media. Where we'd have a compatibility problem on one player, simply burning to a different brand of disc would take care of it, but possibly result in incompatibility elsewhere.

It got to the point that we created a standard waiver advising a client to use replication rather than duplication, and that failing to do so released us from liability of any player incompatibility claims.
