[Michael Gissing] "Hopefully Resolve will work out a way to do an optional smart decompose on import."

I would imagine this is a Resolve issue as reimporting the same XML back into any other system does not produce a nested (or compound) clip. Blackmagic have definitely written weird fcpxml in the past, including xmls that would only work on the originating host machine.

For text, I always send an alpha channel movie the length of the timeline. It's so easy and effortless to export a text only movie from FCPX, and the movie is small as there's not a lot of information in it.

But yes, hours of EDL copy-pasta works too.

For FCPX, there's donation-ware for subtitles that also makes life easier than EDL:

And text does come across from FCPX to Resolve as the text is in the fcpxml and not locked up in a plugin. It's unfortunate that Avid can't give you a better option than EDL.
