Maybe I misunderstood.
But using a "plain vanilla" FCP X doesn't make sense. And that made me laugh.

You got source material which obviously has wrong aspect ratios and a bad codec for editing.
How should a NLE know what you want to do. Okay, the "Spatial Conform" in FCP X could have another option like "Fit and Fill". But you will distort pixels in most cases. They will be eaten or changed.

So why not using using a Compressor droplet to make your clips "edit friendly".
