Seems like Prelude would be better as a free app, or one that a customer could freely install on any machine, or a cheap standalone app offered via the web or even the App Store."

Have you messed with Prelude yet?

It's not an editor, it's more of an assembly tool. It has a "rough cut" feature, but it's not really cutting.
