Actually that hasn't been the case for a year or more. True on the PC side, but not on the Mac side.

In theory yes, but in practical application, highly unlikely. This card and what you can do with it will probably be very tightly controlled by Apple. As such, it will probably only accelerate codecs that are in Apple's interest or by companies that Apple has an understanding with. Maybe RED for instance. Or not. Don't hold your breath.
