That GPU won't be optimized if you're lacking the I/O into and out of it, the heat management, and the properly matched power management, etc, etc, to allow it to work properly.

One user will appreciate the ability to fiddle/upgrade/tune each stage in the process.

Other users will prefer to "buy a box" that has all those engineering issues settled in advance and simply performs to their expectations.

When they see the capabilities of other systems improve - they'll sell that box and buy another.

Build a car - or buy a car. There's ample room for drivers who prefer to do both.

It's also OK to note that over time - the "build your own car" approach pretty much lost favor while the alternative approach GAINED favor.

Hard to say if that is happening here, but I suspect so.

Time will tell.
