5D has a bigger sensor, a little better in low light, a bit more detailed on the color. 7D has more convenient video controls.


If I were to do it now, I wouldn't get either. I'd get either the Panasonic AF 100 or the Sony NES FS 100

Both give you the DSLR look you are seeking with the ability to use any of the canon or nikon lenses as well as the more filmic prime lenses.

These cameras blow away the DSLR's. Film type camera sensors, much better color space, 422 color sampling, video camera controls, etc. So you have the best of a film / video camera and the ability to use the DSLR lenses.
