I've learned a workaround, and I'm not sure why it isn't published anywhere…

First, I recommend just using Pluraleyes to sync and leave the synced clips in the "synced_replaced" sequence that it spits out (duplicating it, of course, so you can return to the original, unedited sequence). Merging each A cam and B cam to the same audio track seems unnecessary, at least in this process.

Nest the A/B cams

Right-click the nest and select "multi camera/enable".

Voila! Your multi-cam experience is prepped and ready. In your Program Monitor, select the multi-cam view so you can see A/B cams side by side. Then you simply play your clip and click on each cam (they will be outlined in red) each time you want to make an edit. Or you can create a keyboard shortcut and just hit a button similar to live switching.
