Not sure why its a pain to edit. I just shot a commercial for someone using my Nikon D7000 and I converted my clips which are 720/30p over to Apple ProRes 422 LT in Mpeg Streamclip. Make sure you slide the quality slider all the way over to 100. Click the aspect ratio for me I used 1280x720 HD720p and unchecked the box for deinterlace. Once the files were converted, editing in Final Cut Pro was a breeze. I will say that using Mpeg Streamclip was my 2nd option. I tried to go right from the SD Card into FCP and the video kept locking up or stuttering. Some clips played fine on my external monitor but not on the computer screen so I decided to convert them to ProRes and after that everything was fine. I figured since the files were .mov files coming out of the camera that I could go right into FCP and start editing but that wasn't the case for me.
