Considering getting a few old prime lenses off ebay,,,
on Jan 2, 2011 at 6:30:11 pm

I found a really old Pentax stills camera with a Pentax 50mm f/2.0 prime lens in my house not too long ago. So the other day, I tried mounting it on my 550D; of course it didn't fit but I was pleasantly surprised that as I held it on with my hand, the image quality on the LCD was actually good. I did some tests and I'm quite happy with the results. There's quite a big difference between the amount of light this little f/2.0 prime lens lets in compared to my f/2.8 Tamron zoom.

I read some previous posts on this forum with a few of you mentioning that you've successfully used primes with your DSLRs and I think I'm now ready to acquire a few.

So what I'd like to know is:

- Is it possible to get an adapter that will mount my Pentax prime to my 550d? (SMC PENTAX-A 1:2 50mm)
- What old primes do you guys use and recommend? I'm looking for a something around the region of a 35mm, 85mm and a 135mm.
- Is it a big issue that older primes don't have IS?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year ;-)
