Actually, most of the voice-overs I record are done in a professional recording studio, so they are squeaky clean, with no need for anything other than editing for time, which I do in Audition. When I shoot with my DSLR, I record on a second system (a Tascam DR-40), with a clap for sync. I use Audition for noise reduction, as needed, sampling the noise floor, and then removing it from the track.

One thing I've notice helps to kick up the perceived quality of the VO is Normalization. Compression can also be useful in giving presence to the VO. Here's a short tutorial on both:
