Is there a way to reduce render time?

Hi all,

I've got a hour sequence that I need to render, but it says it'll take 3 hours to render. The sequence setting is ProRes (LT) 1920x 1080 and the footages are ProRes (LT) as well. My computer config is as follows:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.52f9

Is there any way I can reduce the render time?

Thanks in advance.

Mabel

When you bring a clip in you shouldn't need to render at all. If you applied a filter such as one to give you time code or something, then you will need to render. If you only have a clip in the time line then delete it and bring it back into the timeline. FCP will ask you if you want to change your settings to the same as the clip. Click yes. If you are working with RAW files from a camera like the Cannon 7D, you shouldn't bring those into FCP. Although they are .MOV files they are H.264 files. You need to log and transfer them to say Pro Res and then bring them in. Hope this helps.

Different filters have different render times, depending on the complexity. For example, NEAT VIDEO is a plugin that cleans up your image. But does so at a cost. adding it to 5min of footage means a 20-30 min render. I had it sporatically over a 45 min show, and the render time was 17 hours.

Only way to increase render speeds is faster processors...something you cannot swap out in Macs.

Thanks guys, I guess the only solution is to get a new imac with faster processor.

Would upgrading the GPU help at all?

GPU would only help with GPU enabled plugins. Nothing else.
