Hi everybody,

I have just finished a documentary which was edited on Adobe Premiere Pro on a PC. By the end of the project, my editors have exported a master in .avi full resolution. The footage was shot in HDV (then downconv. into DV) and 16/9

That master plays on VLC with black stripes on the left and right-hand side and the image appears to be squeezed. It should be played and fill in the whole screen of my 16/9 macbook screen.

I have imported the project into final cut in order to put english subtitles to it and now I am facing this problem when wanting to export it. I am wondering if there is a way for me to stretch this image so that it has the right 16/9 dimensions.

I should also mention that when it is imported into FC, it is in 16/9 (without the horizintal black stripes)

Your thoughts?

First, export it to a Quicktime movie. Then open in Quicktime.

Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
In the Properties window, click Video Track in the Name column.
Click the Visual Settings button.
Deselect the checkbox for Preserve Aspect Ratio.
Change the Scaled Size:
For NTSC, enter 853 x 480.
For PAL, enter 1024 x 576.

Now the movie should be displayed at a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Choose File > Save to save the movie.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.
Everything worked out fine with your instructions.

Now next question: my file is 17,6 GB. I'm planning on using roxio to make it fit unto a DVD. But I got no clue whether or not that's going to bring me any satisfactory results.
What should I do to get a good quality DVD?

Use Compressor to compress it for DVD and create the DVD with DVD Studio Pro.
