Total FCPX Project Duration -- Difference between FCPX and QT movie
by Bill Rabkin on Jul 14, 2016 at 5:48:03 pm

I created an HD FCPX project in which the timeline is exactly 1:16:40 long. I share (export) a QuickTime movie using the H.264 codec. The resulting QT .mov is 1:16:44 long.

A colleague and I have both found this to happen with several of our FCPX projects -- the movie is always a few seconds longer than the project storyline in FCPX.

We would appreciate any thoughts about what causes this discrepancy, and any workarounds.

Thanks!

Drop vs non-drop frame?

[Jeremy Garchow] "Drop vs non-drop frame?"

That was my first thought, too.

One way to check this:
- open your project in FCP, change the 'Time Display' preference (under General tab) to Frames
- check the bottom center of the interface to get a total frame count
- open your exported file in QT7, and click on the time display in the lower left corner - change to Frame Number

If those two numbers match, it's a timecode issue. If they don't.... well... that's another kettle of fish!

1:16:40:00 of drop frame is 1:16:44:06 of non-drop.
