Apple Final Cut Pro X Debates Forum

OK, my least favorite subject, but I'm gonna take a swing.

Bill and others are correct that the forum name is no longer strictly appropriate, but rather an artifact of history.

But history is nothing to sneer at, and I'm guessing Tim and other Cow folk are reluctant to change the forum name and risk losing traffic as people might no longer be able to find this fairly busy forum.

As a compromise I would suggest -

"Apple FCPX, Avid, Premiere - The Debates"

Admittedly it does not come trippingly off the tongue.

However this name would show up exactly where it always has in the forum list, it would be immediately recognizable yet would officially broaden the scope of the conversation.

There you go, my contribution to civil discourse for today.

How about, "The Forum formerly known as.."

Or if you want something new, how about "The NLE Fight club".

Drop the "The" and you've got my vote! NLE Fight Club in flashing neon type!

[Herb Sevush] "Apple FCPX, Avid, Premiere - The Debates"

Sounds like a plan.

I would not put Apple in the front of FCPX and list them alphabetically so no preference is taken. Of course, that would make Premiere last which will probably stir up the pot from the "git-go"!

The reason that Apple should come first is to keep the listing in the same place in the Forum Index - remember the idea is no lost traffic. Alphabetical correctness comes in a distant second.

One would hope that a community of skilled editors could find their way around a forum listing. Agreed? Since it would no lonbger be a "debate" based on an Apple product, why keep the name? Makes not much sense.

Nope, not agreed.

Changing brand names is dangerous, as anyone in marketing would tell you. Many casual forum followers would stop coming the moment they couldn't find the forum in it's usual place. This forum has built a "brand" and users know where to find it by it's "geography" in the forum listing. This is why it wasn't folded into the "Art of Editing" forum years ago.

Stop thinking of this issue through the eyes of a motivated user and start thinking of it through the lens of a proprietor who sells traffic (that's us) to advertisers. it's why successful TV shows rarely changed what night they were on and never changed names. If changing the name might cost The Cow 2% of the traffic but keeping the name costs them nothing but grumpy members who end up creating traffic by engaging in threads about changing the name - then what choice do you think Bessie will make.

As long as the same crew shows up to drop some wisdom I will be happy. This is still the only forum that has the right balance of love and hate for the tools we use everyday.
