FCPX stuck in Restore window layout on startup
FCPX stuck in Restore window layout on startup

Dear X People,

I so pray one of you can help me.
First time I encounter such a bad problem on FCPX and of course it happens on a tight deadline:

I used some clip of the Transcoded High Quality Folder of my FCPX Event in After Effects (imported a clip into AE directly from the EVENT Folder), but I did not change it.
After I realised, that in FCPX this clip went red, saying "Modified Clip", I deleted the AfterEffects Project, that contained that clip and did relinked the Red "Modified Clip" in FCPX. After pressing ok, FCPX froze. I forced quit the app and when I tried to restart, it freezes on the start up window saying "Restore Window Layout".
When I move the Event in question to my archive, the App opens again.
How can I repair my event? I have a deadline on this project in 1 day. I have a back up file in the event (I am on 10.0.8). How can I exchange the actual Event File with the back up?
Maybe that helps?
Any thought are much appreciated!

Pfffff, solved it. After deleting the Preference Plists and several weird additional plists that were created, all is ok again.
It made me learn a major lesson: Not only not to modify files within the Event and Project folder, but not even importing (without alternating) any of the FCPX media files into other Apps.

You need to turn of XMP metadata in Adobe products. This will allow you to use the files in Adobe and FCPX.

Qt Edit from Digital Rebellion will remove XMP data.

Thanx Jeremy and JAri, where do I switch that Metadata off?

It's in the preferences of both Pr and Ae.

It's called something like "Write XMP ID to files on import" in the "Media" section of prefs. This pref is off by default in CC versions, but on in earlier versions (CS6 and below).

Cannot find it nowhere in Preferences in CS6 AE.

AE Prefs -> Media and Disk Cache -> XMP Metadata

I wanted to post an update to this.

Sometimes, I think waveform and thumbnails, somehow, get a little corrupt-ish.

If your media and library is on an external drive, it might be best to unmount that drive and then open fcpx, which should open without the restore window hang.

Then once fcpx is open, mount the drive and open the library from within fcpx, and then everything will open.

It's a bit of a workaround, but it does seem to work without having to trash prefs.

If you use CS6 with FCP X, make sure you have the MXP ID write disabled in Media prefs.
