Some Questions about Thunderbolt (thanks in advance)

Hi There

I have a few questions about Thunderbolt which I would love if someone could answer:

1. Is it possible to copy files to two different external hard drives simultaenously through daisy-chaining?

2. Am I right in thinking there is only one Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adaptor on sale at the moment?

3. If Thunderbolt is copying off an SSD drive which has a Firewire 800 connection (using an adaptor) to a hard drive, is it Thunderbolt speed or Firewire 800 speed?

Thanks Guys in advance

Yours Sincerely

Jack

[jack wormell] "1. Is it possible to copy files to two different external hard drives simultaenously through daisy-chaining?"

Yes, but it might take longer than copying one after another.

[jack wormell] "2. Am I right in thinking there is only one Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adaptor on sale at the moment?"

Sonnet said at NAB2011 they would build one but it is no longer being shown on their website. Instead, they are offering a Thunderbolt to ExpressCard34 adapter that can be ted with FW800 ExpressCards. If you found another one, I'd be interested in seeing it.

[jack wormell] "3. If Thunderbolt is copying off an SSD drive which has a Firewire 800 connection (using an adaptor) to a hard drive, is it Thunderbolt speed or Firewire 800 speed?"

FW800 speed. So no advantage aside from being a different bus from the built-in FW800. Concurrent copies would still incur significant slowdown.

Best,
Andy
